Candy Colored Resolutions

Ahh, this last Sunday of 2012 was spent looking at gingerbread houses, and snowfall at the Bellagio Conservatory.

It was a last hurrah for the little one to say good-bye Christmas, hello New Year.

With that came a little window shopping of the high end shops downtown.

As I pressed my nose up against the windows of Chanel, I dreamed of the colors displayed for this seasons collection.
Candy colored pastels...with metallic accents

I am wanting to achieve this same look in my studio without having to paint.  It is coming along slow, but that is fine with me.  As I do not wish to rush it and have to do things all over again in a few months.

But such inspiration came from the walk thru of the Chanel boutique today.

I fell in love with clothes, bags  and shoes.

So anyway, the point of my story today is we looked and I was very, very tempted to come home with a candy colored patent Chanel bag but my resolution for 2013 is to spend less.
I tried it out this weekend just to see how I would do.  Not bad.  Every meal, yes every meal was cooked with what we had in our pantry.  Instead of being lazy and running to get food we made do with what we had.  No trips to Target everyday spending on clearance and sale items.
No instead I have cleaned and purged and reused.  Even the new shelves in my studio closet came from a wood board we have had stored in the garage for 4 years.

I love a good challenge and to make it something I want not that is demanded is the key to the fun part.

The Christmas is all gone

The house cleaned and refreshed to start this 2013 off on the right foot.
A load of donations packed in the car to drop off tomorrow.

I am really hoping that having a fresh, clutter free space to create in will help with my goal of spending less.  Less clutter means more inviting and stress free, plus I can find what I need and not go buy new to replace the thing I am looking for.

So what are your resolutions for 2013?

A Day

Today a normal day for most, became my holiday.

Finally a day of being at home

A day of tinkering and cleaning, organizing and refreshing.

A day of jammies and no shower

A day of watching VH1 countdowns, with hubby next to me under the soft lights of my studio

A day of clashing heads with hubby on little redo's in said studio :/

A day of child playing until he can't possibly play anymore and falls fast asleep to dreamland

A day of texting and laughing with friends and family

A day of catching up with friends via email

Now, A day has turned to A night,

Dinner is being made as the house is so quiet you could hear a pin drop, so dark and lit with softest of light from candles that smell of heavenly pumpkin spice.  It has been forever since being able to spend a day like this, Lets do it all again tomorrow, except I think I will throw a shower back into the mix ;()

Shop is Open

After some downtime for the Christmas season my SHOP is reopen!
I am adding new vintage goodies everyday and some Art as well.

These book dolls are part of my all time favorite art collection.
They showed here in Vegas at a Gallery and I have them back and up for sale.

They are called Mended Heart Dolls.  Made from all vintage findings and parts.
The little bindings in front are from the 1930's, found in a vintage sewing supply box where the lady saved every bit of thread and wrapped them around tissues and newspaper bundles.  It was quite an amazing find from the depression era where they cherished every little part of life given to them.
Too bad we have lost that importance nowadays of loving what we have and using it down to the last inch.
I think these dolls represent to use all we have to make life new again.

I am also adding lots of vintage again.
Little boxes

Glasses collections

Tape Measures and folding ruler collections

Hope you can stop in and look around

Well Christmas is gone and with it the New Year coming it is time to think about refreshing and renewing our lives.
I am working on the renewing of my workspace to make it more relaxed and fresh.
I realized I spend almost all of my waking hours in our living room.
It is a space that is full of life, comfort, warmth and inspiration.
I need that in my work space.
My work space has always been filled to the brim with STUFF.  Overwhelming almost to work in.
Having way to much to divert my mind as I tried to focus.  I would start one project and end up on another.
While I sit in my living room, I have just a yarn basket and tv to occupy my mind.
So I am going to try to bring some of that living room energy into my workspace.

A sneak peek of what I am going for in the above picture.

Learning to take my life one day at a time in at a slower pace.
It is already working!! Each afternoon this week the child napped and I went back to writing in journals and sketching art projects out.  It has been forever since I have been able to do that.  My mind has been to cluttered with things and a workspace that was just overwhelming to sit in.

Stay tuned for a revealing of the full come soon.  I am taking it slow as not to rush it and have to change things again.  I want it to reflect a peaceful place.

Oh and I wanted to add a link here to the wonderful Linda over at itsy bits and pieces that featured her giveaway win.  Thank you Linda, hope it keeps you super warm on those bitterly cold winter days :)

Christmas Morning

Still dark at 5:30 am, child yells MOM wake up!!
I wipe the sleep from my eyes and struggle out of bed, there was no use fighting it.

He ran down the dark staircase lit with twinkle lights, straight to the tree.

So excited to see that Santa ate his cookies and left him a lollipop :)

The morning spent quietly watching cartoons and seeing the news of snow falling back home.

How I wish we could have been there for sleigh rides today in the snow.  Instead we snuggle infront of the fireplace...on tv ;)

We have been out for coffee, made breakfast

and the kitties are fast asleep snuggled in the warm bedroom like bookends on the foot of the bed.

I think I will spend the rest of the day cleaning and organizing while the child plays.

It should be a peaceful day, plus it is bitterly cold, well for Vegas ;), so indoors we will stay...maybe in our jammies all day.

Merry Christmas all who stop by, hope your day is also full of warmth and peace.

Waiting for Santa

Now to leave you with a few images of a child waiting for Santa.

I found him curled up using his blankie as a pillow, under the twinkle lights of the tree last night.
I even changed him into his santa jammies and he didn't even budge.
This is who the season in meant for, a innocent child believing something with all his heart.

Peaceful Images

Just some quick snapshots of my bedroom on this dark, cold, Sunday afternoon.

I can't believe he was that small once...

Bedtime stories...

Faux flowers for a dark room...

Warm flannel snowflakes to cuddle in...

Wishing you all warmth and happiness on a cold winters day

Winter Glow

Winter is upon us.
It is super chilly out and the child sleeps well into the dark evening.

I love sitting with just a glow of twinkle lights on and dreaming.

It seems I have caught either a cold or I am having some crazy sinus stuff going on.
My energy low, I sit and dream of reworking my studio to a streamlined place, free of clutter.

I sit and sketch on red construction paper, in pencil, my dreamy ideas to start my New Year off fresh.
In my mind it always works and little by little as I get a tad of energy to waste I will move a few things closer to my dream coming true.

While energy is low, I peruse the pinterest pages of glamorous places filled with luxurious mirrors, brass trinkets and fluffy rugs.

I framed a few pieces of the boys art to put up, to remind me to keep my creating happy and fun.

So as I sit in my uggs and sweats, sneezing and coughing...I dream of better days to come in 2013.

...not even a mouse

Our house is very quiet this evening.
Glow of twinkle lights and a lone lamp light the house.
Not a sound is being made, you can hear a random noise from the cold dark streets outside our window.

It has been a very long and difficult week.
The boy of the house is now feeling better, thank you so much for the words and well wishes for him.

Our Christmas is over, we have opened all our presents and family has gone...
the boy sleeps from exhaustion.

I am grateful for all we have been given and especially those who brought him gifts and wishes of good health.

Break Time

This weekend has brought unexpected sickness and some sadness to our family.
Things are a bit overwhelming right now and I will take some time away from my blog while we get better and hope to be better for the holidays.
Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas.

Breakfast in Bed

It is a blustery morning, dark grey are the clouds outside.
The screen doors are rattling and leaves rustling.
I turn the lights on for a warm glow to the bedroom.

Child is sleepy eyed and eating breakfast in bed while watching cartoons on tv.

The butterball is curled in the covers, heavy headed and as if to say 10 more minutes mom.

Our morning starts slow but I need to get going.
Child on bus, me to get coffee.
Coffee kick in please, I need to tackle a mess of  a studio today ;)

Wish me luck.
